Mudflap is essentially a cashback app, much like GetUpside, which refunds cash on gas purchases. Mudflap provides everyone across the United States with discounted rates at various fuel stations for buying diesel fuel.

Lots of apps, like Mudflap, My Diesel Fuel Savings Program, TSD Fuel Savings Program, Checkout51, and GetUpside, are similar. But this app combines the best parts of all of them into one. It helps you save a ton when you buy diesel fuel!

Big companies that have lots of vehicles usually get good prices because they buy a lot of fuel.

Small businesses and individual truck owners can’t usually get those same good prices. Also, fuel cards have extra charges like transaction fees, monthly fees, and settlement fees. These fees can add up and cost a lot over time.

That’s where Mudflap comes in handy.

How Does The Mud Flap App Work?

You could potentially save around 20 to 40 cents per gallon using the Mud flap app or their fleet card. Major truck stop chains tend to price their fuel 30 to 50 cents higher than regular rates. Essentially, they mark up the prices only to discount them using an app, bringing them back down to standard prices without any genuine savings.

To benefit from Mudflap’s savings, you need to start by downloading the Mudflap app on your Android or iOS device and setting up your account.

Upon starting the app, you’ll need to define your driving role. From there, the app will guide you through the remaining setup steps before you can access available discounts and your discount code.

During the app setup, you’ll have the option to create a new account for free. To create your account, you’ll be required to input certain personal details such as your name, email, phone number, and more.

Additionally, if you have a friend’s invitation code, using it during signup will grant both you and the code owner $10 in your accounts (this may change over time).

The integrated GPS module will help you notify the best discounts available in your proximity, which you can turn on while setting up the app. With over 2,000 fuel stops listed on the app’s map, you can select a nearby station with the discount you want.

After configuring your account, head to the Route tab and set your preferred route. The app will locate the available fuel stations on the route, each offering different discounts per gallon. Mudflap partners with various independent fuel stops like Sapp Bros, Casey’s, KwikTrip, AMBEST, Roady’s, Cubby’s, Road Ranger, FastLane, Mach 1, Onvo (Liberty), Hutch’s, Truck World, and more.

You can select a specific station from there and then expand the details to ‘view store info,’ and obtain your 6-digit fule code from there.

Additionally, you will find the amenities and directions to the gas/fuel station.

Once you have the code, head to the chosen fuel stop. Present this code to the cashier, who will activate the pump for you. Then, you can pay for the diesel fuel at discounted rates through the Mudflap app using a debit or credit card linked to your account beforehand.

Upon completing the fueling process, Mudflap will charge your linked card with the discounted price, and you’ll receive a receipt via email.

You can also activate the fuel deal notifier within the app to catch top discounts along your chosen route. Besides, if you can, by adding a card that gives % back on purchases, you’ll ramp up your savings even more.

How To Pay With Mudflap & Get Free Fuel

You have a variety of options for paying for fuel through the Mudflap app. The primary method is linking and utilizing your credit or debit card. You need to connect your card as your payment method within the app.

On the app tap on three stacked horizontal lines (more) at the bottom right > it will take you to the app settings.

There tap on payment methods > tap on the Add a payment method button > select your card type > add your card details and tap on Done.

Once you have added your card, it gets super easy. All you have to choose your desired station for fuel purchase, input the station’s fuel code at the fueling station instead of a standard payment, and settle the discounted price through the app after completing your refueling!

Another way to get free fuel is by using your friend’s referral code during sign-up and by inviting other drivers to use Mudflap.

When you use someone’s invitation code you will get $10 in your Mudflap credit after signing up. And then once you use Mudflap at your next fuel station the invitation code owner will receive a $10 on their credit + 1 cent per gallon of fuel you buy.

You can utilize these complimentary credits within the app to cover fuel expenses, ultimately saving you a few dollars on your journeys.

No, the Mudflap app does not currently work for gasoline. It is designed for diesel fuel users only. However, according to their website, they are working on this situation and hope to have it available for gas in the near future.

So, you might want to keep an eye on their updates if you’re interested in using it for gasoline in the future.

How Mudflap Makes Money?

1. Affiliate Commissions

The revenue generation of Mudflap primarily stems from its partnership with fuel retailers. Mudflap negotiates deals with these retailers to offer discounts or cashback to users who purchase fuel through their app.

To attract truck drivers, fleet operators, or any driver to select these affiliated fuel stops, Mudflap provides unique fuel discounts via their app. This mutually beneficial setup ensures advantages for everyone involved: drivers save on fuel expenses, fuel stations draw in more customers, and Mudflap earns a commission for each transaction processed through their platform.

2. Collaborate With Advertisers

Mudflap, being a platform accessed by drivers and commuters, becomes an attractive space for advertisers or brands seeking to reach this specific audience. They could host sponsored promotions within their app. For instance, an automotive company might sponsor a limited-time offer or discount exclusively available to Mudflap users.

Although I have not seen any ads on the app yet, advertisers might place targeted ads within the app. These could range from simple banner ads to more interactive and engaging multimedia content.

These ads could be tailored based on user data collected by Mudflap, such as driving habits, preferred routes, or fueling frequency, to make them more relevant, effective and thus can create another stream of income.

Talking about tailored user data collected by Mudflap, this data could also be analyzed and provided (in an aggregated and anonymous manner) to interested parties, such as fuel companies, automotive manufacturers, or urban planners, for a fee.

3. Mudflap’s Collaborative Path to Driver Support

Moreover, delving into potential collaborations with trucking sector suppliers could unlock opportunities for Mudflap to provide advanced services and exclusive discounts on critical resources like truck maintenance.

This cooperative strategy wouldn’t just offer added advantages to users but also reinforce Mudflap’s dedication to aiding drivers and fleet operators in maximizing their financial efficiency throughout their travels.

According to Crunchbase, Mudflap secured $50 million in a single round of equity-based venture funding. Yet, previous funding rounds, as indicated by Pitchbook, highlight additional investments. For instance, a seed round in July 2019 brought in an additional $2.5 million.

To date, Mudflap has garnered investments from over a dozen investors, including prominent names like 9Yards Capital, Commerce Ventures, and QED Investors.

Mudflap’s website showcases the success of its Fuel Discount Partner Program, highlighting significant revenue increases for its partners.

  • $51 gross profit per driver on average
  • $10K in incremental gross revenue annually per new customer
  • Over 20k gallons sold in the first month for some partners
  • Over 50% of daily sales for some partners

These anecdotal reports suggest substantial revenue growth potential for Mudflap through their fuel discount program.

Mudflap operates in the Mud Flaps & Splash Guards market, which is projected to grow significantly by 2030. According to a LinkedIn report, published by VMResearch Analysis, the global market of Mudflap is expected to reach USD 5.74 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 5.2% during the forecast period (2023-2030).
